Moxa
Moxa or moxibustion therapy (灸) is a form of heat therapy in which warming dried herbs applied directly or indirectly to acupuncture points. The heat from the herbs penetrates the skin improving circulation and invigorating blood. This therapy is used to warm the body and expel coldness and dampness in the body. The herb has specific properties to aid in relieving respiratory difficulty, alleviate aches and pains in joints and muscles. It helps to bring the body into balance and ensure a consistent flow of qi and blood.
Moxa plays an important role in the traditional medical systems of China, Tibet, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, and Mongolia. Both moxa and acupuncture are used to treat a wide variety of conditions. Whereas in Asia, acupuncture is more used to regulate and redistribute energy in the body, and moxa can add more energy to the body. Therefore, it is especially effective in the treatment of chronic problems, "deficient conditions" (weakness) in Chinese Medicine.
Moxa and acupuncture are sometimes used in combination for achieving better treatment results.
